Last year we ended up having to head south from Las Vegas to escape the snow in the higher elevations, so this year we did even more research and we are now leaving in April.

How: Big, big mountains, some left over snow and a few dirt roads thrown in for good measure so we've rented a mid-size SUV from Alamo. We'll mostly be staying in hotels and motels, with a few rustic cabins along the way. Given how remote this area is our internet connection will probably be spotty at best. Please don't worry if there's no update for several days.
Unfortunately, there are some things you simply cannot plan for; the stomach bug that's plagued me for the last two days and worse yet, the impending government shutdown. Unless both parties can reach an agreement by April 8th this will wreak serious havoc on our plans as all National Parks will be closed.
